>Is there a story behind your Artist Name/Alias? Is there a specific meaning and what is the inspiration behind your name, how did you decide on it?

I came up with the name by searching for translations of different words on Google Translate. The word 'Caliente' means hot in Spanish; because I believe that all of my music is 'fire' the word hot made sense and it sounded interesting in Spanish, so I chose Caliente.

>Is this track - "Bambelela" - part of an album or EP?

The song "Bambelela" is part of an EP that I am working on, and that I plan on releasing towards the end of the year.

>Where and how was this song Produced? [Recording, Mixing & Mastering] Please share some of the journey in writing this song and its production.

I am DJ Calienté; I am the beat maker. I create and sell my own beats; I wrote this song, "Bambelela", at the beginning of this year, 2022. When producing the beat for "Bambelela", I was experimenting with new production methods and sounds on my laptop, which led to the repetitive marimba melody heard throughout the song; I then created the rest of the song around this melody. I asked one of my friends from school “Thando” to do the vocals on this song. This track was recorded at Mark 7 Studios, and Markus Els did the mixing based on the vision I had for the song. We also sent this track to a great South African Professional Mastering Engineer - Rogan Kelsey.

>How and when did your music career begin? Would you like to share some of your background (personal and/or music-related)?

My music career began when I started playing the piano in Primary School. During my earlier High School years, I wanted to become a rapper. After trying to create music digitally using FL Studio on one of my friends’ laptops, I then realised my love for the process of production and the thought of what I was going to be able to create in the future. I am currently 19 years old and looking forward to developing further in the Music Industry.

>Where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw my inspiration from my past experiences and the different environments that I am exposed to. I have mostly been exposed to positive environments which is why my music is often written in major and always upbeat.

>Who is your favourite Local South African Artist and who is your favourite International Artist?

My favorite Local artist is Kususa and my favourite International artist is Kanye West.

>Who are some of your Musical influences and Music Role Models?

The artists that influence my music are Black Coffee, Da Capo, Shimza, Kususa and Enoo Napa. My role models are Calvin Harris, Black Coffee, Pharrell Williams, Quincy Jones and Kanye West.

>What was your intention, purpose or meaning with the song "Bambelela" - what does it mean to you? And is it dedicated to anyone specifically?

"Bambelela" is a Zulu word that means 'hold fast' (· cling · fast · hold onto · hang in there); I dedicate this to anyone looking for encouragement. The intention behind the song was to encourage people by letting them know that they can get through anything and that they should hold on (“Bambelela”) to the hope that they will get through any tough situations they may find themselves in.

>Who/what inspired the song and the lyrics specifically? Can you share a few thoughts that you had at the time of writing this song?

When writing the lyrics for "Bambelela", I was feeling very stressed at school; I decided to base the lyrics of the song on what I was going through at the time.

>Do you have any exciting updates and upcoming news that you would like to share? What are your plans for the future?

I am working on my first EP this year which I plan to release at the end of the year; I also hope to start doing live performances soon.

>Any final comments or thoughts that you would like to share with the readers?
